Since the advent of the Uniform Guidelines, adverse impact has been at the forefront of personnel selection practices, especially in the public sector. The Uniform Guidelines, as well as a plethora of legal decisions, have established that human resource professionals are responsible for developing selection processes that identify qualified candidates without undue disparate impact against protected groups. Unfortunately, many of the common selection tools available today result in high levels of adverse impact. Participants will receive practical advice on the advantages and disadvantages of common selection tools and procedures; discuss methods of addressing and reducing adverse impact; learn about pitfalls and misconceptions regarding adverse impact; and be provided with practical and easy to use tools for guiding decisions on the use of selection procedures. A hands-on and lively format is anticipated.
