Dr. Rob Keating will facilitate the virtual skill building workshop R for Everyone on February 27th, 2025 from 6-8:30 CT/ 7:9:30 ET. This interactive event is suitable for practioners, academics, and students and is open to all.

Session Description:

Do you want to build up your data management skills but don't know where to start? Need a refresh on stats basics? Do you want to take your data analytical skills to the next level? Learn the basics of the R software package. This software is currently being taught in I-O graduate school curriculum across the U.S., but many current practitioners did not get the benefit of working with this software. This 2.5 hour interactive session will cover R basics, including an introduction to the R statistical computing environment, basic functions, and work through some common practical data management, analysis, and techniques that assessment professionals typically encounter.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Know how to download and install R and R Studio
  2. Understand the R Studio interface and basic coding/functions (e.g., simple calculations, installing and loading data analysis packages)
  3. Develop skill in data management, including loading external data files and using the dplyr package to manipulate data frames (e.g., subsetting, merging, summarizing)
  4. Develop skill in executing common statistical analyses, including computing descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (e.g.,  correlation, multiple linear regression, and more)
  5. Develop skill in data visualization using the ggplot package to build histograms, scatterplots, bar graphs, etc.

Attendees will also be provided resources for troubleshooting and continued learning in R.
